Smoke was also seen coming out of Konka Electronics’ factory in Sonargaon in Narayanganj on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at night. However, the fire service said, the fire was completely extinguished by noon. The fire is unlikely to spread further. However, it was not immediately possible to determine the extent of the damage caused by the fire. The fire service authority will form a committee on this. At the time of the incident, 200 to 250 workers were working at the factory, but they had already left the factory due to the tiffin break. As a result, no workers were injured in the accident. Only one engineer named Atiqur Rahman was injured when he jumped from above during the fire. But it is safe.
Earlier on Sunday (January 3), a fire broke out in the warehouse on the east-north side of the factory around 11 a.m. Within moments, the fire spread to the entire factory built with steel structures. The fire destroyed a large amount of property, including a large number of refrigerators that were on the second floor of the building. Upon receiving the news, 12 units from the Narayanganj and Dhaka fire service tried to control the fire for approximately four and a half hours.
Police, witnesses and fire service personnel said the fire was terrible due to the large amount of combustible substances, chemicals, plastics, white plastic granules, cotton and other materials in the factory warehouse.

The factory workers said: ‘They used to work between 200 and 250 workers in the factory. The fire broke out during a breakfast break around 10:30 a.m. after heading to work in the morning. No casualties were reported as the workers were outside the factory at the time.
Debashish Barman, Deputy Deputy Director of Dhaka’s Fire Department, said that the Konka brand refrigerator factory was built on a steel frame in a large area. The warehouse was on the second floor in the north east corner of the second floor of the Konka Electronics factory building. The fire is believed to have originated from a large amount of combustible material in the warehouse. The fire spread rapidly due to the combustible material in the building. Fire service personnel were able to control the fire on the ground floor at first, but due to the large amount of combustible material stored on the second floor, it took a lot of speed to control the fire on the second floor. The factory fire was brought under control at 2 pm.

A factory official said, on condition of anonymity, that the factory used to produce about 100 refrigerators a day. The refrigerators produced were stored on the second floor of the factory. A large number of refrigerators on the second floor have been burned to the ground.
Confirming the incident, Sonargaon Upazila Nirbahi (UN) official Atiqul Islam said: “After 4 hours of continuous efforts, the fire service personnel were able to control the fire.”
He added: “The fire damaged a large number of manufactured products within the factory.” However, the amount of damage (in money) is not yet known. A factory engineer jumped from the two-story building and caught fire. He was admitted to a hospital in Dhaka. However, he is safe.
The officer in charge of the Sonargaon (OC) police station, Rafiqul Islam, said: “The fire broke out in the four-story, two-story Konka Electronics building around 11 am. Twelve units of the fire service arrived at the scene and brought the fire after trying for 4 and a half hours. The fire is expected to cause extensive property damage. He said the police were helping the fire service. So that vehicles do not get stuck on the road.
According to the factory authorities, the Konka Electronics building used to manufacture televisions, refrigerators, batteries and other items. There was also a large amount of combustible material on the second floor of the factory. It is believed that the fire started from this combustible substance. However, it was not possible to estimate the amount of immediate damage.
Debashish Barman, Deputy Deputy Director of the Dhaka Division Fire Service, said a committee would be formed to investigate the incident. The committee will also determine the cause of the fire and the amount of damage. The cause of the fire or the extent of the damage could not be immediately determined. However, the factory had a lot of plastic, plastic granules, fuels and chemicals to make refrigerators. Because of this, the fire has taken a terrible shape. Furthermore, the fire suppression system within the factory was inadequate. They could not be used. The fire service vehicle was unable to enter due to the construction of a gate in the front of the factory. The water was brought in from a pond about 500 meters from the factory through a pipe and the fire was controlled from the fire source itself.
He said an investigation will be carried out to find out whether fire fighting has been organized at the factory according to the fire plan.
