The famous Bangladeshi columnist, researcher, essayist, journalist and writer Syed Abul Maqsood is no more. He died at Hospital Square in the capital on Tuesday night.
Syed Nasif Maqsood, son of Syed Abul Maqsood, told The Daily Star at 7.30pm: He died some time ago.
Syed Abul Maqsood has written several books and articles on Bangladeshi politics, society, literature and culture. He has written investigative articles on the life and work of famous writers and politicians. He also practiced poetry. The number of books written by him exceeds forty. He received the Bangla Academy Award in 1995 for his overall contribution to Bengali literature.
According to family sources, Syed Abul Maqsood was born on October 23, 1948 in the village of Elachipur in Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj district. His father Syed Abul Mahmud and his mother Saleha Begum. Abul Maqsood had the opportunity to read various local and foreign magazines from his childhood.
Syed Abul Maqsood’s career began in 1984 with journalism in the weekly Nabayug edited by M Anisuzzaman. He was the spokesman for the Socialist Party of Pakistan. Later he worked for a time in the weekly ‘Janata’ supported by the National Awami Party. Later, in 1981, Barta Sangstha joined Bangladesh. On March 2, 2006, he resigned from the editorial department of the news agency. He is a regular columnist for the Prothom Alo newspaper. He wrote columns on society, politics, literature and culture under the headlines ‘Sahajia Karcha’ and ‘Bagha Tentul’.
Syed Abul Maqsood was also famous as a writer. In 1961 his poetry book was published in the afternoon. In 1986, her second book of poetry, Dara Shikoh and Other Poems, was published. He has written poems on human rights, the environment, society, and love. He has researched the lives and works of eminent writers and politicians such as Rabindranath Tagore, Buddhadev Bose, Syed Waliullah, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani.
He has written about Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani in the life, activities, politics and philosophy of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani (198) and Bhasani Kahini (2013). In Bhasani’s story, he describes Bhasani’s varied and eventful life and his political philosophy. Syed Waliullah has written on the life and literature of Syed Waliullah (2011) and in memory of Waliullah (2014). In Syed Waliullah’s book Life and Literature, he has written about Syed Waliullah’s life and his literary works. In addition, the social, political, cultural and economic aspects of the time.
