In Gaibandha, clashes have started over the incident of painting the stairs of a primary school with the color of the national flag. The stairs are made in red and green on both sides. According to locals, the stairs to the second floor of the Uttar Gidari government primary school in Malibari Union of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila were painted on Wednesday afternoon. The paint job was done as part of various renovation works worth Tk 2 lakh 44 thousand of PEDP-3 and the Slip project. In addition to painting the school building in a new way, the job of creating stairs in different parts of the building with the creation of images and colors. When the painter Saddam Hussein created the stairs in red-green on Wednesday afternoon, the matter came to everyone’s attention. The stairs are painted red in the middle and green on both sides. Many people in the area protested against the painting imitating the national flag. Saddam finished his job without listening. Many of them go up the stairs to the roof and down.

Locals say the incident is unacceptable. Who ordered to paint the stairs in the form of a national flag? The locals want their justice. Such a big reform is being done, but there is no oversight committee. It never caught anyone’s attention. Why was the oversight committee not formed? And if an oversight committee has been formed, that committee will not be able to avoid liability in any way.

The accused painter Saddam Hussein said that painting work has been carried out in different parts of the school according to the instructions of the school authorities.

When the school principal Nadira Begum was asked about this on her mobile phone (01726-97433), she declined to give an interview. She said that if there are any errors, it will be corrected very soon.

Harunar Rashid Idu, president of the union and president of the Awami League union, said: “If there is any incident of insult to the color of the national flag, I demand a proper investigation and trial of the culprits.”
