The University Council, an organization of rectors, has decided to admit students at the undergraduate level by means of an admission test in public universities. However, a decision will be made on how the admission test will be conducted after the results of the HSC and equivalent exams are published. The decision was made at a virtual meeting of the Vice Chancellor’s Council on Saturday night.
According to sources at the meeting, the demand for admission to the university on the basis of the GPA after the cancellation of HSC and equivalent exams has been rejected. At the same time, taking into account the current situation, the majority of university rectors have spoken in favor of taking the exam online without taking the physical exam. In this case, they have started working to determine the process of taking the online admission test. However, most of the rectors have given their opinion on the integrated admission test.
Vice Chancellor of the Council and Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Prof. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said: ‘We have discussed the admission test in detail. After the publication of the HSC and the equivalent results in December, the rectors will sit down and decide the method and time of the admission test.
It is known that the meeting also proposed to use the ‘Protected Remote Examination’ software invented by the Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Digital University, Professor Munaj Noor, to take the online admission test. The effectiveness of this software is presented to the vice chancellors. Initially, the remaining exams for fourth-year honors students from different colleges are also discussed through this software. If you are successful there, it will be used in the admission test.
Rector of the National University Prof. Harun-ur-Rashid told Kaler Kanth: “In principle, we have agreed on the admission test. And if the current situation continues, this test can be done online. We will also sit down with UGC on the effectiveness of the software invented by the Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Digital University. If the online admission test is the MCQ method. Most of the rectors have agreed on a full admission test. You will only take one test for a group of students.
It is known that the National University used to admit students on the basis of obtaining GPA on SSC and HSC exams for a long time. Because a large number of students are admitted to the colleges affiliated with your university. This time, the number of students in colleges will increase as all students have the opportunity to pass HSC.
The vice-rector of the National University also said: ‘This time we will decide later the method of admission of students. Since we have a large number of students, if there are any complications with the admission test, we can also admit in the above method.
Jagannath University Vice Chancellor Mizanur Rahman said that considering the current situation, the majority of Vice Chancellors have given their opinion in favor of taking the online admission test.
It is known that group or integrated admissions tests have long been debated to alleviate the plight of students. Last year, agricultural universities successfully completed the admissions test on a batch system. The UGC has proposed to carry out the admission test dividing the universities into three groups. However, Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University and Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) have not yet agreed on the group or integrated admission test.
