Attacks, persecutions and counter persecutions between relatives and doctors focused on the death of a patient at the Jamalpur General Hospital. At least 10 people, including the leader of the Awami League and the doctor, were injured during this time. Police arrested eight people, including an internal doctor, in connection with the incident.

The incident took place around noon on Friday (December 25). The deceased was identified as Karimon Nesha, 55, the wife of Mohammad Ali, a resident of the Iqbalpur area of ​​the municipal city.

Locals said that Karimon, who had come to perform prayers at the Iqbalpur Ahl-e-Hadith Jame mosque in the municipal city, fell from the second floor and was injured. Later he was taken to Jamalpur General Hospital. There, the doctor on call in the emergency department provides first aid to the patient. Later, when the patient was taken to the women’s ward, there was no oxygen and the patient was taken back to the emergency department downstairs. But it is alleged that the patient died due to the late arrival of the doctor on duty. During this time, doctors and interns from the hospital’s emergency department had a discussion with the patient’s relatives. At one point, relatives of the deceased tore apart the hospital.

Later, while relatives were returning with the body, internal doctors attacked Saidur Rahman, son-in-law of the late Karimon Nesha’s daughter and manager of the Madarganj municipality, Mirza Golam Kibria, manager and former organizational secretary of the Awami League municipal district. Vandalized a motorcycle. Subsequently, the police arrested eight inmates, including a doctor, from the scene.

Saidur Rahman, son-in-law of the deceased’s daughter, alleged that the patient died at the General Hospital due to lack of oxygen and negligence and irresponsibility of the doctors on duty.

Chiranjeev Sarkar, a doctor on call in the emergency department, said the patient was admitted with first aid. The patient was transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment as his condition deteriorated during admission. But the relatives took the patient to the ward. As there was no oxygen supply in that room, the relatives lowered the patient again and caused a commotion. During this time, relatives of the patient smashed the furniture in the emergency department and assaulted the doctors.

Said the police officer in charge of Jamalpur Sadar (OC). Rezaul Karim Khan has confirmed the veracity of the incident. He said there was a persecution between the doctor and the patient’s relatives for the death of the patient at the hospital. Eight people have been detained to control the situation. Additional police officers have been deployed to the hospital. No case has been recorded in this regard.
