Dhaka: Under the ‘My town, my city’ initiative, initial plans have been made in 15 towns across the country with city facilities, the local government minister said. Tajul Islam.
The minister spoke at the first meeting of the inter-ministerial committee on the implementation of ‘My town, my city: Action plan for the expansion of modern urban facilities in each town’, held in the conference room of the Department of Local Government on Sunday (4th of October).
The local government minister said a preliminary plan has been made to bring together a total of 15 villages, including eight villages in eight divisions and seven in seven special zones, under the initiative of My Village, My City.
The local government minister said that the Awami League Election Manifesto titled “Bangladesh on Prosperity Progress” has made a special commitment to take the “Amar Gram Amar Shahar” initiative by expanding modern urban facilities in each village. Through this initiative, each village will be transformed into a modern city thanks to improved communications, clean water, modern health care and sanitation, quality education, improved sewage and waste management, increased power supply and high-speed internet and computing facilities, expansion of the market for quality consumer goods, including electrical equipment.
The minister said that it is not possible to build a developed Bangladesh neglecting the townspeople, so all the facilities in the city will be extended to the villages.
Tajul Islam said that people leave towns and come to cities with the hope of a better life. If we secure all the city facilities in the village, people will no longer come to the city. Extensive employment will be created by installing several mills in rural areas.

The minister said that various ministries are involved in creating all the modern facilities in the town. Therefore, all ministries must come together and work in a coordinated way. The ministry / department concerned will take the initiative to implement this plan after checking and selecting at different stages.
He called on the secretaries to send their respective action plans to the ministries concerned for the implementation of the government’s special initiative “My people, my city.” Tajul Islam.
