Dancer and choreographer Evan Shahriar Sohag has been arrested on charges of being involved in a trafficking ring. The topic The daily starSheikh Rezaul Haider, Additional Deputy Inspector General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said Sohag was arrested by CID (Dhaka Metro Northern Division) officials on Thursday night on charges of human trafficking.
The CID said it had arrested five members of his gang, including Azam Khan, last month, according to information from Dubai police. Three of them have made confessional statements. Sohag has been arrested on the basis of that statement.
According to the police, in the deposition, Azam Khan and his associates said that the gang was basically “focused on dance.” Some dance organizers and artists are part of this network. Small club captains also participate. Dancers from small clubs or organizations who danced at various social events, including Gayehlud, were the main targets of the smuggling ring.
CID Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrinal Kanti Saha filed a case at the Lalbagh Police Station on July 2 after speaking with victims of trafficking.
It is worth mentioning that Ivan Shahriar Sohag also won the National Film Award in 2016 for his choreography in ‘Dhyatteriki’. He has a dance company called ‘Nityabhumi’.
