Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for a new forum to reduce tensions in the Middle East. He made the call during a meeting with Iran’s foreign minister in the southwestern city of Tengchang on Saturday. At the same time, he reiterated Beijing’s support for the Iran nuclear deal.
A statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry said China is proposing to establish a regional platform for multilateral dialogue with the equitable participation of all.
The statement added that the forum will enhance mutual understanding in the Middle East through dialogue and find political and diplomatic solutions to security problems. Wang cited support for the Iran nuclear deal as a precondition for entering the forum.
