Amir Charmonai Pir Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim called an emergency press conference to clarify the position on the sedition case brought against Amir Junaid Babungari from Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, religious speaker Mamunul and three others for speaking out against the sculpture by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The conference will be held on Tuesday (December 6) at 12 noon at the organization’s headquarters in Purana Paltan in the capital.
It was learned that in addition to clarifying the party’s position on sculpture, the conference may request that the case against the three scholars be dropped.
A Dhaka court ordered the Police Investigation Bureau (PBI) to hear the case and submit a report before January 8.
In recent months, Islamic parties have protested against the construction of a sculpture of Bangabandhu in Dolaipara in the capital. Meanwhile, in the darkness of last Friday night, criminals vandalized the sculpture under construction of Bangabandhu at the Kushtia city crossing.
Police arrested two students and two teachers from a local madrasa in the incident.
