The police brought an accusation against National Film Award winner music director Shawkat Ali Emon in a dowry and torture case brought by his third wife, Hridita Raza.
The charge sheet was recently filed in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Court by Ramna Police Station Inspector Tahmina Akter Trina.
The charge sheet alleges that Shawkat Ali Emon demanded 10 lakh rupees as a dowry and struck her heart and kicked her out of the house if she refused to pay.
General Register Officer (GRO) of the Metropolitan Magistrates Court in Dhaka on Friday. Shariful Islam has released this information to the media.
Upon presentation of the charge sheet, the case was transferred to the Dhaka 8 Abuse of Women and Children Suppression Court for further trial. The case is scheduled for next Sunday (January 3).
On the charge sheet, investigating officer Tahmina Akhter Trina mentioned that the defendant Shawkat Ali Emon is a deadly man and greedy for dowry. He married Hridita Reza on February 28 according to Islamic Sharia. The preliminary investigation has revealed that the defendant Emon has been beating and mentally abusing his wife Hridita Raza since the marriage demanding a dowry. He demanded 10 lakh rupees as a dowry. When Hridita Reza refused to pay the dowry, the defendant Emon beat her and kicked her out of the house.
At the beginning of September 20, Hridita Reza filed a lawsuit against her husband Shawkat Ali Emon at the Ramna Police Station for beating her to demand the dowry. In the case of the Law on Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children, a dowry of Tk 10 lakh was requested. Then, on September 25, Ramna police arrested Emon at his home in Eskaton. The next day, he was presented to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Court and sent to jail at the request of the police. Later, on October 1, Emon’s attorney granted Shawkat Ali Emon bail. Previously, Emon was jailed after being arrested in a case involving his second wife, dancer Jinat Kabir Tithi.
It can be mentioned that Shawkat Ali Emon married Hridita Reza, a newsreader for a private television channel on February 26, 2020. This was his third marriage. After divorcing his first wife, actress Bijri Barkatullah, he married dancer Jinat Kabir Tithir on December 6, 2012. But he also separated with Tithira. After the separation, Tithi filed a case with the Ramna Police Station alleging threats and extortion for spreading offensive images on the Internet. Emon was arrested in August 2014 and incarcerated for the case.
