The foundation stone of the central Shaheed Minar was laid at the abandoned site of the Institute of Engineering and Studies in the Sonadighi area of Rajshahi.
On Wednesday (December 16) around 11 am, linguist Golam Arif Tipu laid the foundation stone for the central Shaheed Minar.
Linguistic soldiers Abul Hossain and Mosharraf Hossain Akhunji, Rajshahi city mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, and Rajshahi Sadar deputy Fazle Hossain Badsha, were present.
Later, flowers were laid at the iconic Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the great liberation war. Shaheen Akhter, Vice President of the Mahanagar Awami League, Shafiqur Rahman Badsha, Director and Dablu Sarkar, Secretary General were present at the time.
Rajshahi City Corporation plans to build the beautiful Shaheed Minar on the site owned by the district council together with the city complex under construction in Sonadighi. Meanwhile, 17 crore of Tk has been allocated for this project.
But not the Shaheed Minar, the district council first wanted to build a multi-story commercial building there. For this they also sent a plan to the ministry.
Rajshahi’s political, social and cultural organizations began to protest against this. On December 13, a meeting was held to announce the laying of the foundation stone for the central Shaheed Minar on Victory Day. In the end, the district council deviated from the plan to build a commercial building.
The first Shaheed Minar of the language movement was built in the Muslim dormitory area of Rajshahi College. But the state recognition of this Shaheed Minar did not match. Although efforts have been made to rebuild the first Shaheed Minar, it has been pending for a long time.
There is another Shaheed Minar in Bhubanmohan Park in Saheb Bazar, the heart of the city. This historic Shaheed Minar testifies to the various movements and struggles here. But due to the occupation it has been blocked.
After a long time, the people’s wait for a central Shaheed Minar will finally end this time.
