Nurul Haque Nur, former Vice President (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Student Union, said he had been accused of humiliating and repressing the government because he criticized the government on various issues.
A student from the Department of Islamic Studies at Dhaka University filed a case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Kotwali Police Station under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act and the Digital Safety Act Monday night The same plaintiff had filed another case against the same defendant under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act at the DMP police station in Lalbagh on Sunday. Nur has become number three accused in both cases.
When asked about the case, Nurul Haque Nur told NTV Online on Tuesday: ‘The plaintiff in the case called me about two and a half months ago. He told me on the phone that he had a love affair with Hassan Al Mamun. Now there are problems between them. Mamun doesn’t want to get married. Since Mamun is the leader of our organization, he should solve the problem.
So I told him that since the matter is personal to you, it should be resolved by talking to each other. And you come to Dhaka (because the whistleblower was in the village at that time because of Corona) can be discussed. And if I have to do something from my place, I will. ‘
Nurul Haque Nur said: ‘The statement in the case said that after being informed, I did not take any action. But the plaintiff never called me again. I didn’t even try to communicate with me in another way. However, the charge against me was for aiding and inciting rape. Or even threatened him. But I did not see or speak to the plaintiff again.
The former Daksh vice president believes that the plaintiff has brought this case with the help of some quarters. He also denied any involvement in the incident. “It just came to our notice then. Since I criticize the government from time to time, how can I be repressed? I think this incident may be a manifestation of that.
Calling the Lalbagh Police Station case a conspiracy, the Bangladesh General Council for Student Rights held a torchlight procession and assembly on the Dhaka University campus on Monday evening. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, taking hundreds of protesters away by truck. Later, the police arrested some people, including Nurul Haque Nur, in front of Matsya Bhaban. After the arrest, through various dramas, the Detective Branch Police (DB) released a total of seven people, including him on bail, around 1:15 pm.
When asked about the link, the former Daksh vice president said: “I have not given any link. On the contrary, after returning from Dhaka Medical, I was released, I was released after making a document about it. ‘
However, the rest were released on bail, citing obstruction of police work, Nur said. “There are references for them not to do this again,” she added.
The defendants in the case brought to the Kotwali Police Station are Nazmul Hasan Sohag (28), Joint Coordinator of the Student Rights Council of Bangladesh, Hasan Al Mamun (26), Nurul Haque Nur (25), former Vice President of Daksh, Saiful Islam (26), Joint Coordinator of the Student Rights Council of Dhaka University.
