The High Court has expressed surprise that Abidul Islam alias Abdul, a fourth-class student, has been charged in a buffalo smuggling case by showing that his age is 19 years. The High Court has summoned Naib Subedar Sahab Uddin from the Jaintapur BGB Camp in Sylhet.
He has been instructed to appear in person on October 6 to explain the matter. At the same time, the High Court granted bail to 10 defendants in the case, including the minor. The boy was also asked to appear in court that day.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman High Court approved the order Sunday. Lawyer Jahangir Hossain was in favor of the bail candidates, including Abdul in court. Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi represented the state.
Abidul Islam, aka Abdul, said he is a fourth-year student at the “School of Learning” run by BRAC. Lawsuits have been filed against his father, brothers and many others. Defender Jahangir said that Saidul Bepari, a merchant from the Khilatail area of Jaintapur, bought 20 buffalo legally and brought them home. But BGB members seized the buffalo on September 13.
