A court case has been filed against five people, including Tarana Halim, president of Bangabandhu Sanskriti Jote and former Minister of State for Posts and Telecommunications, for distorting history against the martyred president Ziaur Rahman.
The case was presented in the second court of Dhaka’s chief assistant judge, Abu Saleh, around 11am on Monday. The plaintiff in the case, Chharakar Abu Saleh himself, has confirmed the truth of this.
The other defendants in the case are playwright Mannan Hira, actor Saju Khadem, MP from Noakhali-2 and RTV chairman Morshed Alam and the secretary of the Ministry of Information. The drama ‘Indemnity’ recently aired on various channels, including satellite TV and Facebook, in protest of Bangabandhu’s acquittal.
The play also deals with the sharing of power and behind-the-scenes incidents of Pakistan’s allies after the brutal assassination of the Father of the Nation in 75. The Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance built the play with its own funds as a symbolic protest against the infamous Indemnification Ordinance.
The 43-minute drama was hosted by Tarana Halim, President of Bangabandhu Sanskriti Jote and former Minister of State for Posts and Telecommunications. Saju Khadem, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Chitranayak Riaz and many others have acted in different roles in the play. The play is composed and directed by Mannan Hira.
The BNP has been demanding the withdrawal of the work since its promotion. The party alleges that through the drama ‘Indemnity’, malicious attempts and propaganda have been carried out to deliberately shorten BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
