Parveen Akhter alias Nupur, a Niketan resident in the capital, was accused of cheating by establishing a cordial relationship with established people. After his arrest in the fraud case, the police discovered in the investigation that Parveen was not alone. The names of his companions have also come out. On Tuesday, the police filed another case under the Telecommunications Regulation Act at the Hatirjheel police station. Defendant number one in this case is Grameenphone.
Hatirjheel Police Inspector Mohammad Golam Azam, the plaintiff in the case, confirmed the matter at first glance. He said the investigating officer would decide whether to question Grameenphone officials. The other two defendants in the case are Grameenphone’s customer service manager Rubel Mahmud and Parveen Akhter.
When asked about this, Grameenphone’s head of external communications, Mohammad Hasan, told Prothom Alo: “Grameenphone adheres to strict data protection policies and measures. We learned through media reports that a GP Franchise Employee (GPCTHF) is being investigated by the police for involvement in alleged fraudulent activities, and Grameenphone will fully cooperate with all law enforcement agencies in this regard.
