Chandpur Kachua Upazila, former vice president attorney. Helal Uddin filed the case under sections 500/501/502 and 34 of the Penal Code on Sunday.

Senior Judge of Chandpur. Helal said Kamal Hossain had learned of the case and ordered the district’s Additional Superintendent of Police to investigate.

The other three defendants in the case are Prothom’s assistant editor Alo Sharifuzzaman Pintu, lead correspondent Iftekhar Mahmud, and Gazipur correspondent Masud Rana.

On July 30 and September 4, Prothom Alo published two reports on the City Medical College Hospital in Gazipur, one titled ‘An Unauthorized Hospital’ and the other titled ‘Mohiuddin’s Hospital Purchased with Other’ Loans’.

The first report stated: “The City Medical College Hospital, owned by former Interior Minister and current MP Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, is operating illegally. The 500-bed hospital in Gazipur is not approved. In the six years since its inception, there has been little or no medical treatment. “

The second report read: “Several institutions have borrowed from the Farmers Bank (now renamed Padma Bank). Gazipur City Medical College Hospital was purchased with a portion of that loan. Former Interior Minister and current MP Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir was the chairman of the Farmers Bank at the time. He also owns City Medical.

“The hospital, located at the Chandna crossroads in Gazipur, was bought for around Tk 25 crore. But there has been a public transaction between buyers and sellers of approximately Rs 19 million. Of this, Tk 3 crore 33 lakh 75 thousand has been left in the accounts of three Farmers Bank loan clients. The three companies in the bank’s Gulshan branch are Atlas Greenpack Limited, Creative Fashion Trawler and Ayesha Enterprise. Farmers or Padma Bank owes them more than Rs 115 crore Tk, including interest and principal, which is unlikely to be recovered. In the same process, deep-sea trawlers and cargo vessels were purchased with a portion of the loan money. It is also owned by Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir. “

In the case brought by Helal Uddin, the two reports have been charged with publishing and disseminating false, fictitious, imaginary, unrealistic and misinformed defamatory news.

The statement read: “Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir has no shares in City Medical College. He even gave unpaid advice to the organization at different times. “

Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir’s claim has been severely tarnished by the defendants for publishing “false and defamatory” news.

Attorney Helal said: “I was upset and brought the case on behalf of Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir with his permission. Judge Md. Kamal Hossain took notice of the case and ordered the Additional Police Superintendent to investigate. I hope that a proper investigation will uncover the true facts and a fair trial. “
