The strike was called off after the owners agreed to pay food subsidies to the workers, said Shah Alam, president of the Bangladesh Transport Workers Federation.

He said this after a meeting between employers and workers at the Labor Ministry on Thursday night.

The freighter workers have been on strike since Tuesday demanding 11 points for not having an agreement with the shipowners.

Due to this, the transport of goods from Chittagong port to the whole country was being interrupted; Because transporting goods by water is the most profitable.

Although the ship’s workers went on strike, the owners said they were unable to meet the “unreasonable” demands.

Then Shah Alam said on Wednesday that if they receive the food allowance for now, they can withdraw from the program.

Given this, the Ministry of Labor sat down in a meeting with the shipowners and workers on Thursday.

Akhter Hossain, a public relations officer at the Labor Ministry, said the two sides met under the leadership of State Labor Minister Mannujan Sufian at 7.30pm.

Earlier, the Minister of State for Maritime Transport, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, had said that the demand for food for the shipping workers was “fair” and would be resolved on Thursday.

Former Cargo Ship Owners Association President Mahbub Uddin, President of BIWTA, was also present at the meeting on behalf of the ship owners.
