He also said that he was continuing talks with various countries in the region in this regard. At the time, Francois Philippe Champagne praised the generosity and humanity shown by Bangladesh in protecting the Rohingya.
The Foreign Minister requested all possible assistance, including exemption from tuition fees in the current situation of Bangladeshi students residing in Canada. He also requested Canada’s help to rehabilitate Bangladeshi workers returning from abroad after losing their jobs due to Corona’s situation. He called on Canada to help provide food aid to the country’s poor if the situation in Corona persists.
He sought the help of Canada, a major importer of the garment sector, in the current situation, citing the problems of the garment industry, which is crucial to the country’s economy, as purchases from various countries have been canceled. Abdul Momen said the livelihoods of some 4 million workers in the sector, most of whom are women, are in uncertainty.
Noting that a large number of talented and potential young professionals are employed in the Bangladesh IT sector, the Foreign Minister asked Canada to invest in this sector in Bangladesh. He also asked Canada to invest in the country’s special economic zone. The Bangladesh Foreign Minister asked Canada to work together with Bangladesh in the development of agriculture. The Canadian Foreign Minister said that Canada was seriously considering the issue.
During the talks, Francois Philippe Champagne thanked Abdul Momen for his cooperation in helping Canadian citizens return to the country on special flights.
