Police arrested Mostafizur Rahman Badal, 48, president of Laxmipur Union Parishad in Gaibandha Sadar, for nine months for allegedly raping a woman while trying to obtain a National Service certificate.
He was arrested at his home around 10 p.m. on Tuesday (November 24).
Earlier on Tuesday (November 24) around 8 pm, the victim filed a case at the Gaibandha Sadar Police Station.
The victim alleged that on March 3 of this year, when he went to the room of the president of the Parishad Union to obtain the certificate of National Service, Badal called the woman and raped her. She was later raped more than once in different places for fear of the viral video of the rape.
The last time Badal went to the victim’s home on November 11 and raped her in the absence of her husband, President Badal fled.
Mojibur Rahman, Officer in Charge of Gaibandha Sadar Police (OC Investigation), confirmed the matter and said the victim would undergo a medical examination on Wednesday (November 25).
