The Islamic Movement of Bangladesh has called for a boycott of French products in protest of the insult to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). After French President Emmanuel Macron’s controversial comments about the Prophet Muhammad, citizens of the country spoke out against Paris on social media.
“The French boycott movement has gained momentum in Bangladesh,” state agency Anadolu reported Tuesday. French media France 24 headlined: “More than 10,000 protesters have called for a boycott of French products in protest at the publication of a cartoon of the Prophet.”
Qatar-based Al Jazeera headlined: “Thousands of protesters call for boycott of French products in Bangladesh.”
The first cartoon was published in 2015 in Shirley Hebdo, France. Later it was discussed again by the French teacher Samuel Patty. The teacher showed a cartoon of Nabiji in the classroom. After that, a young man killed the teacher last week. However, the young man was shot dead by the police.
While attending a ceremony to pay tribute to the French teacher Samuel Patti, who was assassinated last Wednesday, Macron said the cartoons of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will not stop. Soon after, Muslims in France accused Macron of trying to suppress their religion and legitimize Islamophobia.
The Anadulu report said that on Tuesday, more than 10,000 protesters in Bangladesh marched towards the French embassy in Dhaka. At that time everyone was called upon to boycott French products.
According to Al Jazeera, protesters in Dhaka set fire to a portrait of French President Macron.
France 4 says, the idea of the police, 40 thousand people participated in the protest. They were detained by police on their way to the French embassy in Dhaka. Without any violence, Infinite 100 policemen were present and barricaded them.
