Sirajganj: Due to conflict between workers, CNG-powered autorickshaws have been closed indefinitely on all routes in Sirajganj.
Since Wednesday morning (March 3), no bus has left on any route from Sirajganj city and no bus has been seen entering the city.
Similarly, the CNG fueled autorickshaws did not run on either route until noon.
Previously, buses and automated highways were closed on Tuesday (March 2). There were incidents of vehicle vandalism and clashes in the market station area.
Ferdous Hasan, general secretary of Sirajganj CNG-Autorickshaw Owners Group, told banglanews that the bus driver had a problem with the CNG driver on the Enayetpur route. After that, the bus workers first trashed some CNG in Mirpur and then in Bazar station. Later there was a confrontation between the two sides at the market station. Because of this, drivers have stopped the movement of CNG. However, no organizational announcement has been made in this regard.
Abdur Razzak Raja, acting general secretary of the district motor workers union, said a CNG passenger was heading to Enayetpur at the city’s Mirpur Kalachan intersection on Tuesday (March 2) morning. At one stage of the discussion between the two drivers about sidestepping a bus coming from the opposite direction, the bus driver slapped the GNC driver. Enraged, the GNC driver went to his post in the Railgate area and attacked and wrecked the bus with the workers. At that moment, they beat and injured a bus worker.
Upon receiving the news, we went to the place and saw that a hundred and a half GNC workers had blocked the road and stopped the movement of the bus. Since then, they have wrecked 7-8 buses in the Chandidasganti, Sialkol and Railgate areas. Because of this, the workers stopped the bus service out of fear.
Sirajganj District Additional Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain told banglanews that union leaders came to us to solve the problem. We have tagged the matter to the police. It will be resolved by the mediation of the police within today.
