A court has held six defendants in two separate cases filed at Shahbagh Police Station for three days in connection with a bus fire in the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mandal approved the order on Friday.
The court’s general registration officer (GRO), Nizam Uddin, confirmed the information to NTV Online. He said the detained defendants were Hazrat Ali, Moin Uddin, Abu Saeed Shant, Abul Kalam Azad, Abu Sufian and Sohail. The first three are charged in one case and the next three in another.
The GRO further said that the Shahbagh police presented the defendant in the Dhaka Metropolitan Chief Magistrate’s court today and requested pre-trial detention for 10 days in two separate cases. Following the request, the judge granted preventive detention for three days.
9 cases
A total of nine cases have been recorded at the Paltan, Motijheel, Shahbagh, Bhatara, Bangshal and Uttara East police stations in connection with the arson and bus sabotage in the capital on Thursday. The police have filed these cases as plaintiffs. The police have arrested 20 people in these cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner for Media and Mass Communication (DC), Walid Hossain, confirmed the information to NTV Online today.
Walid Hossain said: “A total of nine cases have been registered in Paltan, Motijheel, Shahbagh, Bhatara, Bangshal and Uttara East police stations. These cases have been filed under the Explosives and Special Powers Law. A total of 20 people have been arrested in these cases.
The criminals set fire to 10 buses in different parts of the capital from noon until late Thursday night. However, no casualties were reported in these incidents.
Bhatara Police Officer in Charge (CO) Moktaruzzaman told NTV Online at around 12 noon today: “There has been a case in connection with the burning of the bus. Many unidentified people have been charged, including mentioning the names of 90 people.
The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of Bangshal Police Station, Shaheen Fakir, said: “One case has been recorded in connection with the arson of the bus. Two people have been arrested.
Earlier, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Motijheel Area Police Assistant Commissioner Zahidul Islam Zahid told NTV Online last night that six to seven people have been arrested in four cases at model police stations in Motijheel and Paltan.
On the other hand, Shahbagh OC Mamun Aur Rashid Police Station told NTV Online this morning, “Six people have been arrested in two cases here.”
DMP Uttara Division DC said. Shahidullah said there was a car burn case in Uttara.
Cocktail explosion case at the polling station
The by-election for the Dhaka-17 constituency was held yesterday. The explosive cocktails took place in two centers in sectors 6 and 12 of Uttara between 11 am and 12 noon during the vote.

Another case in Kalabagan

Places where buses catch fire
Police said a fire broke out in a government vehicle parked in Fiscal Zone 15 on the north side of the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan at 12:05 pm yesterday.
The fire broke out on an Agrani Bank staff bus in front of the Madhumita Cinema Hall in Motijheel around 1 pm and in a moving Victor Classic Paribahan vehicle in front of the Ramna Hotel at 1:25 pm.
Dewan Paribahan was set on fire in front of the Aziz supermarket in Shahbagh around 1.30pm, Rajnigandha Paribahan on the north side of the Secretariat at 2.10pm and a Dishari Paribahan bus in the Nayabazar area below the Bangshal police station at 2.25pm p.m
