Bus fire in the capital: three leaders and activists of the ‘BNP’ arrested

The Police Detective Division (DB) arrested three people in connection with the arson in a government vehicle parked in the tax zone on the north side of the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan. Law enforcement agencies have claimed that these three are leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organizations. They were arrested on Saturday morning.

DB Additional Police Commissioner AKM Hafeez Akhter said this at a press conference held at DMP Media Center on Minto Road in the capital around 11am today.

The detainees are Leon Haque (30), Kazi Rezaul Haque Babu alias Jim Babu (28) and Md. Azad (26).

AKM Hafiz Akhter said: “The Motijheel division of the DB branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested them. The three were identified by reviewing information obtained from eyewitnesses and CCTV videos and footage taken by electronic media reporters. They were arrested in a raid in the area of ​​the Paltan police station this morning.

The DB Additional Police Commissioner further said: “Chhatra Dal, Juba Dal and Swechchhasebak Dal leaders and activists held a procession in front of the Naya Paltan BNP party office on 12 November at 12 noon. At one point, the procession arrived in front of the BNP party office and it became chaotic. Reviewing images and video footage and CCTV footage from print and electronic media reporters, those arrested in the procession, with the help of their associates, were seen to set fire to a government staff bus in front of to Fiscal Zone-10 in front of the party office in Nayapaltan.

On November 12, buses suddenly caught fire in various places in the capital. Six buses were first reported to have caught fire in six locations within a couple of hours starting at noon. A total of 11 buses were vandalized and set on fire at different times until night. There were 11 cases in this incident. More than five hundred people were charged. Most of those whose names have been mentioned are BNP leaders and activists.
