Bus fire in the capital: 26 people arrested

A Dhaka court granted 26 people pretrial detention in different cases for setting buses on fire in different parts of the capital during the Dhaka-17 by-elections.

In two separate cases brought by the Shahbagh Police Station, the court granted 8 defendants pre-trial detention for 3 days. The defendants in remand are Hazrat Ali, Moinuddin, Abu Saeed Shant, Abul Kalam Azad, Abu Sufian and Sohail.

Two defendants, Aliza Al Ahmed Mitu and Mehedi Hasan Yasin, have been detained for three days in a case brought by the Paltan Police Station. In another case, the court granted five days of preventive detention to six defendants: AK Fazlur Bari, Altaf Hossain, Naeem Pradhan, Alif Mahmud, Humayun Rashid Tutul, Khandaker Mashukur Rahman and Rasheduzzaman.

The Motijheel police detained Abdur Rahman Taher for two days in one case and Zakir Hossain for three days in another case.

Safiuddin Ahmed Sentu and Mridu Rahman Johnny alias Morshedur Rahman Johnny were detained for two days in a case brought by the Bangshal Police Station.

In one case from the Kalabagan Police Station, two defendants, Mahifur Rahman Tipu and Mainuddin Chowdhury, were granted two days of preventive detention. The court granted pretrial detention to 4 defendants in the case filed at Sutrapur police station for 3 days.

Two defendants, Mashiur Rahman Mosi and engineer Nazrul Islam, have been held by a court in a case filed at the Khilkhet police station for two days. In a case brought to the Turag Police Station, Sohail Mia was granted a three-day pre-trial detention.

Pretrial detention was granted by the Dhaka Metropolitan Court of First Instance on Friday (November 13). The investigators of the case requested the preventive detention of the accused in different terms. After the hearing, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Court granted pretrial detention.

Earlier on Thursday (November 12), six cases had been recorded in five police stations, including Motijheel, Shahbagh and Paltan, in connection with the bus fire. In these cases, more than one hundred and a half people have been charged. So far, 18 of the accused have been detained. Most of the detainees are leaders and activists of political parties.

Earlier, sources from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Crime Control and Command Center said that a fire broke out in a government vehicle (Dhaka-Metro-J-11-0484) parked in Tax Zone 15 on the north side of the BNP party office under the Paltan Police Station at 12:05 pm Thursday.

Jainpuri Paribahan (Chittagong-Metro-J-11-0617) in Paltan Police Station area at 2:45 pm, BRTC double-decker bus near Pubali petrol pump under Motijheel Police Station at 3pm (Dhaka-Metro-B-15-5001), Bhatara Thana The evildoers set fire to classic transport (Dhaka-Metro-B-15-5325).

The fire was brought under control thanks to the efforts of fire service personnel. Most of the vehicles were burned and damaged. Immediately the mobile team of police and senior officers visited the scene. No casualties were reported in the bus fire.
