Airport Executive Magistrate Ahmed Jamil told bdnews24.com on Wednesday.
A special Burak Air flight carrying 153 passengers from Libya to Dhaka took off Tuesday afternoon, according to a message posted on a Facebook group of executive magistrates at Shahjalal airport.
The condition for operating that flight was that all passengers must have a Covid-19 test certificate with them as per instructions from the Civil Aviation Authority.
But after landing in Dhaka, the staff at the airport health desk received a “covid-free” certificate from just three passengers. There were no documents related to the test with the remaining 150 passengers.
That is why the 150 passengers were sent to institutional quarantine without being allowed to return home.
The executive magistrate said that the company in charge of operating the special flight of Burak Air was fined 3 lakh rupees for causing suffering to passengers.
This special flight was made to bring back the citizens of Bangladesh stranded in Libya. The flight operator claimed that the coronavirus RT-PCR tests in war-torn Libya did not have the facilities.
However, even in such cases, there is an exemption under the direction of the Civil Aviation Authority. Rapid antigen test reports can also be accepted at the airport if there is no opportunity for RT-PCR testing.
Furthermore, the three passengers from the same flight returned home after showing the corresponding certificate to the airport health officer, while the flight operator could not give a good answer to the question why the remaining 150 passengers were unable to bring the CVID-19 test certificate, the executive magistrate’s Facebook group said.
Airport authorities have so far fined 15 airlines for failing to comply with the rules of the Covid-19 test certificate.
