BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the government has been issuing circular after circular to prevent people from voicing their complaints in the virtual world, let alone democratic rights. It has transformed a neutral state institution like the BTRC into the leading government-controlled settlement police institution in the digital world. Not only the BNP, but also all political parties, human rights organizations and newspaper publishers have been repeatedly demanding the repeal of the anti-people law.
He said this at a press conference at the BNP President’s political office in Gulshan on Saturday.
Mirza Fakhrul said the BNP wants to inform the government in clear language that the current digital security law is being misused only to protect the government from fire from public anger. This injustice of the state must be stopped at this very moment.
He said that this law against people should be repealed. We condemn and protest arrests and harassment through the misapplication of various laws, including the Digital Security Act, across the country during the ongoing global Corona epidemic.
He said that BNP leaders and activists and their affiliates in different districts of the country were arrested from time to time and kept in a state of panic. But the relief from the rice and wheat thieves roam safely. Through all of this, the mask of the government’s cruel, inhuman and fascist character has been exposed.
Fakhrul said the government-issued circulars cannot be considered dictatorial. Now stealing in one place, stealing rice, stealing wheat, stealing soybean oil, stealing relief, would it be a mistake to write about all this? Journalists’ job is to reveal the truth.
“Unfortunately, by enacting such laws, issuing such circulars, you are only allowing corruption,” he said. Now the question is, why is the government so silent on this issue? And why is the government cracking down on those who talk about this? In this case, the government must have some weakness here, which is why they are giving up.
The party’s information and investigation secretary, Riaz Uddin Nasu, members of the press wing of President Shairul Kabir Khan and Shamsuddin Didar were present at the press conference.
