He expressed his displeasure at officials at a meeting to review the progress of projects under India’s loan program and the construction of the third Shitalakshya bridge on Sunday.

The Secretary General of the Awami League said: “I have a complaint that most of the workers involved in the project have offices in Dhaka. The bridge is being built in Narayanganj, and why the project office in Dhaka? This is also one of the reasons for the delay in project implementation. There will be offices in the project area, not in Dhaka.

Criticizing the construction of new buildings in the center, the minister said: “I notice that buildings are being constructed under various projects throughout Dhaka city. What is the need for all this? Road office, project office wherever you want go Bailey Road, Banani, Gulshan, next to Banani Cemetery, Shyamoli, Mirpur, Ellenbari How many offices are needed? So why building separate roads?

He directed the Planning Wing to investigate the need to construct office buildings and other permanent structures during the future adoption of the project.

“India has a ‘warmer, smoother and more progressive relationship’ than at any time in the past,” he said.

Under LOC-II, four projects were taken over under the Department of Highway and Highway Transportation, the minister said, adding that two of them have been completed or acquired and two are ongoing. Additionally, a major project is being implemented at LOC-II. Although work on two of the three packages has initially started, it is not progressing as expected.

Noting that several major projects are emerging under LOC-3, the minister said the 135km-long Benapole-Jessore-Narail-Bhatiapara-Bhanga highway improvement project is one of them. The timely acquisition of land is also a challenging task in this project. Under this project which is being implemented under the Government of Bangladesh and LOC, 156 culverts will be built including 31 bridges, 5 flyovers, 12 overpasses, 2 railway overpasses and 11 underpasses.

Noting that the work on the Bangladesh-India Friendship Bridge is also nearing completion, he said: “The bridge construction work is expected to be completed by the end of this year. In addition to LOC, Indian funded initiatives have been taken to upgrade the Bibirbazar to Suagazi and Charlene road. “

He said that the third Shitalakshya bridge is being built in Narayanganj’s Bandar Upazila at a cost of around Tk 600 crore with joint funding from the Government of Bangladesh and the Government of Saudi Arabia. The project has already been delayed due to the Corona epidemic and other reasons, including delays in the release of funds from the Saudi fund. I hope that the construction work on this bridge, which is progressing at a snail’s pace, will now gain momentum ”.
