According to eyewitness sources, supporters of Awami League candidate Jahangir Chowdhury attacked the voting agents of independent candidate Abu Jaher (Piña) as he was entering the Dulalpur SM&K high school center around 9 a.m. today. Fifteen people, including journalists, were injured. A minibus belonging to the electoral agents of independent candidate Abu Zaher and a private car of journalists were vandalized.
The police, members of the RAB and the BGB in charge of security at the electoral college immediately controlled the situation. Comilla Deputy Commissioner Abu Fazal Mir, District Police Superintendent Syed Nurul Islam, and other administration and police officials arrived at the scene around 10 am.
Awami League candidate Jahangir Chowdhury said the attackers were not his supporters. They are external.
Comilla Deputy Commissioner Abu Fazal Mir told Prothom Alo that the incident took place 500 meters from the voting station. There were no problems at the electoral college. Vote peacefully.
The district’s police superintendent, Syed Nurul Islam, said that one person had been arrested in connection with the attack.
