BRAC Director of Skills Development Program (SDP), Brigadier General (Retired) Aftab Uddin Ahmed, died of a coronavirus infection (Innalillahi Wainnailahi Raziun). He died at the CMH Hospital in the capital on Thursday afternoon. He was 72 years old at the time of his death.
A press release signed by BRAC Executive Director Asif Saleh said that Aftab Uddin Ahmed died of a heart attack while undergoing treatment for a lung complication at CMH Hospital in the capital. Doctors said he was infected with the Kavid-19 virus. He was 72 years old.
The statement further stated that Aftab Uddin Ahmed joined BRAC in October 2019. Previously, he was Executive Director of the Bangladesh Center for Excellence in the Garment Industry (CEBAI). He has played many important roles in the successful career of Bangladesh Military Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME) for more than 26 years.
Aftab Uddin Ahmed has also worked for UNICEF, the International Labor Organization, IKEA, Save the Children International, Asian Development Bank, Plan International, World Bank, European Commission, Citibank NS and various other government organizations in Bangladesh.
He has also made important contributions to the formulation of the National Education Policy, the Formal Education Policy, the Education and Technical and Vocational Training Reforms, Education Watch 2013 and the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy.
