A whole ‘hard-boiled egg’ was found in the stomach of a patient after surgery thinking it was a tumor. The incident took place at RG Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata.
Doctors at the hospital said Tuesday that the body parts had grown to the size of a cooked egg. They said there were not many such incidents in India.
According to sources at RGK Hospital, a 52-year-old man from Dumdum suffered from lower abdominal pain for several months. He also had burns while urinating. The pain did not subside and she sought medical attention last Thursday.
Outpatients from the hospital’s surgery department said the patient may have lower abdominal pain due to a bladder infection. At this time the patient underwent an ultrasound. Looking at that report, doctors believe that there is pain in the lower abdomen due to the tumor in the bladder.
After that a CT scan was also done. That report raises the possibility of the tumor’s location in the esophagus and in the bladder. After that, the doctors decided to operate.
However, the doctors were shocked after the surgery. A ‘hard-boiled egg’ about two inches long is removed from the patient’s lower abdomen.
According to hospital sources, the disease is called ‘loose peritoneal bodies’ or ‘peritoneal mice’ in the terminology of doctors.
Doctors say that the fat-calcium coagulates with the body’s system and takes the shape of an egg.
Usually, in the case of men, the appendix melts or the meat falls from the body of the large intestine and the part of the body takes the shape of an egg. On the other hand, in the case of women, small tumors fall out of the uterus and such tumors can form.
