Police arrested two transport workers in connection with an attack on students at the University of Barisal (BOB). They were detained at the Rupatali bus stop in the city around 1:30 pm on Friday (February 19).

More than fifty buses parked there were searched. Two of them were detained from inside a bus at around 1:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the university students have been carrying out various programs, including blocking roads, demanding three points, including the arrest of the attackers. The students blocked the Barisal-Kuakata highway around 5 p.m. Friday. At night, the students took out a torchlight procession along the same road to make their demands. The students postponed the blockade until 8:30 am on Saturday at the request of the university administration considering the difficult situation of the passengers. In addition, the students carried out the road blocking program in two more phases from the night of February 16 to claim three points.

One of the leaders of the agitated students, Raktim Hasan Amit, a 13-14 academic year student from the university’s law department, and several other students said that several university students were attacked in the Rupatali housing area at midnight. Tuesday (February 18). ). The attack was led by several union leaders. At that time, the students’ wallets and various valuables were taken from them. At least 20 students were injured in the attack. Among the injured, 13 students were admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Because the condition is serious, 3-4 students are still admitted to medical school.

In protest of this incident, the students began to agitate from one thirty that night. The Barisal-Kuakata highway was blocked as part of the program. A meeting with the university and police administration was held on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 18. The blockade was lifted from the road around 5 p.m. on the condition that the three-point requirement be met. The lawsuits include trials involving attempted murder against those involved in the attack, arrests of attackers within 48 hours, investigation of the negligence of members of the proctorial body in assisting students after the attack, and security measures for all students. non-residents. The university and police administration assured the students that their demands would be met within 48 hours.

It is worth mentioning that on February 18 at noon, two university students were beaten at the Rupatali BRTC bus counter in the city of Barisal and the road was blocked.
