The party’s leaders and private activists have branded BNP candidate SM Jahangir Hossain a “housewife” and a “terrorist” in the upcoming Dhaka-17 by-elections.
On Thursday evening (November 5), they held a torchlight procession under the banner of underprivileged leaders and activists from the Dhaka-17 constituency. The banner of the protest procession read: “Gharjamai and terrorist SM Jahangir were declared undesirable in the constituency of Dhaka-17.”
In early October 10, activists and supporters of the BNP nominees held a protest in front of the home of the party’s secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in Uttara. The protesting activists and supporters also threw bricks and eggs at the home of the BNP secretary general.
Meanwhile, the party has claimed that the attackers at Mirza Fakhrul’s home were not members of the BNP. On the contrary, the party claims that ‘government agents’ are involved in this. The party expelled 12 leaders of the Dhaka Metropolitan BNP on 12 October for their role in the attack.
On the other hand, in the Dhaka-17 constituency by-election on October 23, there was persecution between BNP candidate SM Jahangir and disenfranchised and agitated leaders and activists.
On the same day, Jahangir began his election rally and public relations after Friday prayers at the Jame Central Mosque in Sector 1, Highway No. 6, Uttara with the allocation of symbols from the Election Commission. When disenfranchised and agitated leaders and activists brought out a procession with banners and black flags in the same place, there was a persecution and a counter persecution with the activists from Jahangir.
By the way, the vote for the Dhaka-17 by-elections will take place on November 12. The seat was vacated following the death of Sahara Khatun of the Awami League.
