The BNP has harshly criticized Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star, for his views on the article on democracy, saying it was a propaganda tactic against the party.

On September 15, International Day of Democracy, Mahfuz Anam wrote an article in The Daily Star entitled “After 30 years of disappearance of autocracy, democracy remains a distant dream.”

The BNP held a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Naya Paltan on Friday to protest the article.

BNP Senior Deputy General Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and former student leaders of the party were present at the time.

Rizvi alleged that the author of the article had given false, misleading, motivated and irrelevant opinions about the former prime minister and president of the BNP, Khaleda Zia.

He claimed that the author’s direct and indirect comments about Khaleda Zia have created anger in people’s minds. In the article, the author has expressed his hatred towards BNP.

“Which is the equivalent of yellow journalism and blatant praise from the current Midnight government,” he said.

The BNP leader said: “What Mahfuz Anam wrote in his article about the August 21 grenade attack is only an echo of the hyper-propaganda and tainted lies of the illegitimate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and his council.”

“The vision-mission of his writing is to publish fabricated and unsubstantiated stories against BNP,” he added.

Rizvi said: “Whether it is fear or remnant suffering, it is now your worship to please the Awami League government, which is engaged in undemocratic and reckless behavior.”

The BNP claims that Mahfuz Anam’s charioteer, several so-called public officials, was involved in a deep conspiracy to assassinate democracy in the country and establish an unconstitutional regime.

The party further claims that Mahfuz Anam has acted as an agent for foreign financiers and domestic spies, not for transparent journalism.

Rizvi said: “One article after another was published in the Daily Star Group newspaper welcoming the undemocratic dictatorial dictatorship supported by the army instead of the democratic government.”

“Mahfuz Anam played a critical role in setting the stage for the arrest of politicians by delivering false, false and baseless news,” he said.

The BNP leader said: “We believe your article is a new addition to Maya Kanna and Halud’s journalism for democracy.”
