Sakhawat Hossain Jumma, Bogra correspondent: Leaders and activists of the BNP rebel group have blocked broom processions and roads in the city due to the arrival of the deputy of the electoral district of Bogra-6 (Sadar) and convener of the BNP of the district Golam Mohammad Siraj in Bogra. Faced with the rebel artillery, the deputy joined his scheduled program two hours later with the help of activists and police.
On Saturday (October 3), a one-and-a-half-hour procession of brooms went through various streets of the city from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
It is reported that 23 BNP leaders and their affiliates were expelled from the party within a year and a half of the formation of the BNP convening committee for the Bogra district. People’s City Councilor Sipar Al Bakhtiyar, former Juba Dal district president and BNP district publicity secretary, was kicked out of the party’s primary membership on September 28. Thereafter, the BNP’s political arena gradually heated up. Tensions flared between the two groups over the occupation of the district BNP office. As a result, the police prevented the two groups from going to the office.
Deputy Golam Mohammad Siraj was named the main guest at a function organized at the premises of the Bogra District Court of Judges on Saturday 3 October, on the occasion of the conference of the Bogra District Nationalist Lawyers Forum. Upon the news that he would be joining the program at 11 am, thousands of activists and activists from the rebel group took a broom procession at the PTI intersection on Sherpur Road in the city. Later, the leaders and activists marched through the city in a broom procession and again took a position at the entrance of the city at the corner of the PTI. The protesters called Ghulam Mohammad Siraj a reformist leader and demanded his release from the party and the return of those expelled on his recommendation.
Meanwhile, after the rebel group’s broom procession ended, Ghulam Mohammad Siraj joined their program at the court’s premises with a convoy of activists around 1.30pm.
Additional Police Superintendent Sanatan Chakraborty of the Bogra District Police told Voice of Time that the police have been deployed to the court premises for the security of the MP.
