BNP candidate Salahuddin Ahmed in the Dhaka-5 parliamentary constituency by-election has demanded re-election by rejecting the vote citing irregularities at the polls. He also demanded the resignation of the government and the Electoral Commission.

He also announced a human network program in the constituency at 2 pm Sunday to protest the irregularities.

He was speaking at a press conference at his main elections office on Saturday night.

Salahuddin Ahmed said: “Since the first day of these elections, terrorists from the Awami League have harassed me in various ways.” Even when I went to pray in the mosque, I was prevented from doing so. My birthright is to go to any mosque in this area and offer prayers and ask for their votes and prayers. But I was not allowed to do that. Whenever we went to the media, people responded spontaneously and that’s when the Awami terrorists pounced on us.

He said that the Awami terrorists have tortured our leaders and workers in various ways. You have seen our two sister agents humiliated and expelled from Duniya University. Another agent of ours was also expelled from RK Mission Chowdhury School. Even his body has been touched.

The BNP candidate, complaining to the presidents, said: “Our agents have been evicted in almost all the centers.” The centers where the agents have entered have also been evicted. But the presidents took no action. We repeatedly informed the returning Electoral Commission official, but he took no action. That is why, through you, we reject the illegal election that is plagued by this irregularity and demands re-election.

The organizing secretary of the BNP Metropolitan South of Dhaka, Tanvir Ahmed Robin, and the organizing secretary of the BNP Jatrabari Thana, Mizanur Rahman Bhandari, and other leaders and activists were present at the time.
