BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: “The BNP believes in democracy and not terrorism. The BNP continues to participate in all elections. This government has deliberately destroyed the entire electoral system. They have destroyed not only the electoral system, but also the democratic system.
Mirza Fakhrul said this while participating in a protest rally in front of the National Press Club at 10 am on Saturday. The BNP organized the protest to protest the arrest of leaders and activists in cases of vote manipulation and sabotage in the by-elections in Dhaka-18 and Sirajganj-1.
At the time Mirza Fakhrul further said: ‘The state of Bangladesh is not for the welfare of the people now, not for the people. The country is now in the hands of looters, murderers and torturers. There is no freedom of the press, there is no independence of the judiciary, the application of the law works as it is. An extreme crisis is taking place in the country. The current crisis has created the current fascist government.
Regarding the recent fire on a bus in the capital, Mirza Fakhrul said: “The burning of buses in the capital is not an isolated incident, it is a pre-planned incident. The government wants to impose its responsibility on others by carrying out these sabotages with its own agents. The BNP has nothing to do with any sabotage, that criminals submit to the law.
Fakhrul said: ‘The Election Commission has become an incompetent institution. That is why I saw that the elections on December 30, 2016 were held on the 29th. People have been robbed of their rights in the dead of night. Since then, I have seen that all the elections held under this government and the Electoral Commission have been looted in their favor.
The BNP general secretary further said: ‘The confidence of the people in the Electoral Commission has been reduced to zero. Evidence of this was found in the presence of the people at the voting station. We saw in the by-election of the Dhaka-16 constituency, so much terror! So many tricks! Despite showing so much fear, they couldn’t get more than 14 percent of the vote.
The top BNP leader said: ‘The Chief Elections Commissioner said: The Election Commission of Bangladesh is better than the Election Commission of America, how ridiculous! What a pity! Why? Because, they can’t even announce the election results in five days, there we can announce the results in five minutes. You can, because your results are already prepared. So you announce it. The Election Commissioner is not even ashamed of them. If they had been embarrassed, they would have resigned long ago. They are working under a completely useless government.
Fakhrul further said: “The current government has jailed the most popular democratic political leader in the country, Khaleda Zia. He spends his days in captivity. Tareq Rahman, the country’s most promising young leader, is staying out of the country with the desire of this government to stay in power illegally. Our 35 lakh leaders and activists have been indicted in more than one lakh of cases. There is only one reason for this, the opposition party must be eliminated, the BNP must be eliminated, and dissent cannot be maintained here.
BNP Deputy Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohail chaired the protest rally, which was attended by the adviser to the party chairman Aman Ullah Aman, Habibur Rahman Habib, the organization secretary Syed Imran Saleh Prince, the publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and climate secretary Mostaf. Executive Committee Member Akramul Hasan Mintu, Chhatra Dal Senior Vice President Kazi Raunakul Islam Shravan, Vice President Ashraful Alam Lincoln, Hafizur Rahman, Organizational Secretary Saif Mahmud Jewel, Member of Krishak Dal Secretary Krishibid Hasan Jafir Tuhin Deputy Secretary General Saiful Islam Firoz, the farmer Mehedi Hasan Palash, Mia. Anwar, KM Rakibul Islam Ripon, Shafiqul Islam, Mir Mominur Rahman Sujan, Swachchasebak Dal Mahanagar Uttar, President Fakhrul Islam Robin and others.
