Chunadanga Jivannagar Upazila Nirbahi officer Munim Lincoln was injured in the attack. Police went to the scene and rescued him after Tuesday’s incident. He is currently resting at home after the initial treatment.
A man named Ohidul Islam (40) was killed and his son Yasin Ali (7) was seriously injured when he was struck by a Matikata tractor in the village of Katapole in Upazila around 11am on Tuesday. Upazila Nirbahi’s officer, Munim Lincoln, was blocked when he went to inspect the site. Later, the villagers attacked him. He was hit on the head.
Ohidul Islam, the son of Samash Ali from Batangachhi village in Maheshpur upazila, is known to cycle to his brother’s house in Minajpur with his wife and son. When he came close to Lukman’s home in the Katapole village of the Hasadah union of the Upazila, his father was killed instantly and his son was injured when a reckless Matikata tractor from the opposite direction struck him.
The locals said that despite repeated written requests to the Upazila Nirbahi officer to close down the land by illegally destroying farmland, he did not listen. Later, when the accident occurred, the officer from Upazila Nirbahi went to inspect the place and became angry and was physically assaulted.
When Upazila Nirbahi’s officer SM Munim called Lincoln on his mobile to find out, he did not receive the call.
Jivannagar OC Saiful Islam Police Station said, now the atmosphere is calm. Upazila Nirbahi’s officer is recovering from first aid at his home.
