Demonstrations are taking place by blocking the Dhaka-Tangail highway
Tangail: Locals have blocked the Dhaka-Tangail road in protest at the inclusion of various unions in Mirzapur and Delduar of Tangail with the Dhaleshwari upazila proposal.
Thousands of people from Mirzapur and Delduar upazilas organized a one-hour blockade in the area of Pakulla bus stop in Mirzapur around 11:30 am on Monday (October 12).
Subsequently, the police lifted the blockade after the locals claimed to inform the higher authorities about the demand.
At that time there was a severe traffic jam on both sides of the road. The passengers trapped in the vehicle suffered.
The protesters said that people from all walks of life in Banail, Anaitara from Mirzapur and Fazilhati from Delduar would never be included in the proposed Dhaleshwari upazila. If necessary, stricter movement programs will be observed.
Tangail Additional Police Superintendent. Shafiqul Islam told banglanews that the demands of the locals will be reported to the higher authorities. Currently the situation is normal.
