BJP leader Manish Shukla was shot dead by criminals outside the Titagarh Police Station on Sunday night. He is known as the “right hand” of BJP MP Arjun Singh from Barrackpore. They fired a total of four rounds at him, police sources said. However, so far no arrests have been made.

According to local sources, Manish Shukla, a lawyer by profession and a member of the Barrackpore organizing district of the BJP, attended a party meeting in Howrah on Sunday. Returning from there in the evening, he was sitting in the party’s office on BT Road, next to the Titagarh Police Station. There he was shot by criminals who came on a motorcycle. In the words of eyewitnesses, “The criminals fired several shots at Manish Babu from very close. They shot and fled from there. They shot him in the head and chest. The BJP leader was rushed to a private hospital in Barrackpore in a bloody state shortly after the incident. He was later taken to a private hospital on the Calcutta bypass. But the doctors declared the BJP leader dead. The BJP on Monday called for the closure of the 12-hour barracks in connection with the murder of Manish Shukla.

The BJP alleges that the incident was caused by base misdeeds. So is the demand of MP Arjun Singh. But in the words of Naihati Trinamool MLA Perth Bhowmik, “Trinamool is not involved in this incident in any way. Such incidents may have occurred due to BJP’s factionalism.
