The BJP-Gupkar alliance won the Jammu and Kashmir District Development Council (DDC) elections. The Gupkar alliance has so far won 100 out of 260 seats in local elections led by Farooq Abdullah. And through this, the BJP occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
This is the first election in Jammu and Kashmir since the repeal of Article 370 of the Special Powers. Elections have been held in a total of 20 districts of the Union Territory. However, results for all districts have yet to be announced. The BJP has won 64 out of 360 seats. In addition, Congress has won 28 seats. There are a total of 14 seats in each district. A total of eight rounds of voting have been conducted. It took 25 days. The results were finally announced. Although Srinagar’s results have yet to be announced.
BJP leader and electoral chief Saeed Shahnawaz Hussain described the results as a reflection of people’s confidence in the democratic process. He said that the spontaneous participation of the people in the elections has shown that they believe in democracy rather than in bullets and grenades.
On the other hand, the former Kashmir chief minister and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti called the result a difficult victory to achieve. He said that people did not accept Article 370. He said that the people of Kashmir would once again fight for the special status of the state.
The central government of India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August last year. The valley was divided into two separate Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
