Mahmuda Khatun Bhasani, daughter of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, has started a sit-in in Tangail Shaheed Minar over allegations of fraud and irregularities in municipal elections. Mahmuda Khatun’s son, Mahmudul Haque Shanu, was the BNP’s candidate in the Tangail municipality elections this time.

Mahmuda started the sit-in program starting at 7 pm today to demand the cancellation of the election and re-election. Mahmudul was by his mother’s side at the time. The strike lasted until 8:30 pm when this report was written.

Mahmudul complained to journalists that the Awami League candidate had been declared the winner of the Tangail municipal elections held on Saturday through vote rigging and fraud at various centers throughout the day. No action was taken even after the Electoral Commission was informed about the irregularities.

He added that there would be a human chain in the city on Monday to demand the cancellation of the vote and re-election. The next program will be released after the human chain.

It is worth mentioning that on January 30 the vote was carried out in five municipalities of the district, including the municipality of Tangail. In all municipalities, the mayoral candidates nominated by the Awami League have won by a large margin.

The Awami League nominee Sirajul Haque Khan Alamgir won almost three times as many votes as Mahmudul Haque Shanu in the Tangail municipality elections.
