On Friday evening, Yasmin Parveen Tibriji, deputy director of the local government department in charge of the Chittagong deputy commissioner, wrote a letter to the main secretary of the public security department of the Interior Ministry requesting the deployment of BGB in Hathazari, Patia, Rangunia and Fatikchhari upazilas.
In the letter, BGB has requested four platoons for Hathazari upazila and two platoons for the remaining three upazilas.
In addition, seven executive magistrates have been assigned to assist law enforcement agencies through another order.
Hathazari Upazila Executive Director. Ruhul Amin has confirmed the deployment of BGB.
He told bdnews24.com, “The BGB will be on the ground from Saturday morning to keep the law and order situation normal.”
He also said that four magistrates will be in charge in Hathazari.
In the other three upazilas, three executive magistrates have been entrusted with responsibility.
Shah Ahmad Shafi, who was the CEO of Hathazari Darul Uloom Muinul Islam Madrasa for a long time, died at Azgar Ali Hospital in Gandaria, Dhaka on Friday night.
Ahmed Shafi resigned as general director of the madrassa on Thursday night amid protests from a group of students.
Shafi, who was seriously ill, was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital late at night. When his condition deteriorated, he was airlifted to Azgar Ali Hospital in Dhaka on Friday afternoon. There he died at night.
Ahmed Shafi lost the authority of Hathazari Madrasa
His body will be taken to Chittagong and is scheduled to be buried in the Hathazari Madrasa Cemetery itself after the Johar Janaza on Saturday.
Amir Ahmad Shafi from Hefazat-e-Islam was born in Rangunia. In addition, there are several large Qawmi madrasas in Fatikchhari and Patia upazilas.
That is why BGB is deploying in these three upazilas together with Hathazari to avoid adverse incidents.
