Mahiyasi Begum Rokeya sculpture ‘Alokvartita’ has been unveiled in Rangpur on Begum Rokeya day. The sculpture was officially unveiled by Anik Reza at 12 noon on Wednesday (December 9) near Begum Rokeya Government College in the Shalban area of the city.
It is known that although the construction was financed by Rangpur City Corporation, no official of the corporation, including the mayor of the city, agreed to unveil the sculpture. As a result, its creator, sculptor Anik Reza, unveiled the plaque. At the time, prominent citizens and media workers, including several teachers and cultural activists from Rokeya College, were present.

Although the sculpture was built with funding from Rangpur City Corporation at the time, the negotiators expressed their displeasure as neither the administration nor the mayor of the city corporation and no official came to inaugurate it. The negotiators said they did not come for fear of the existence of the fundamentalist group that had smashed the sculpture of the Father of the Bangabandhu Nation and opposed it. But whether they come or not, the sculpture is expected to further immortalize the memory of Begum Rokeya.
