The new leadership was elected at an emergency Amela meeting in the Majlis in the auditorium adjacent to the Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh (BEFAC) headquarters in Jatrabari on Saturday (October 3).
On the other hand, according to the constitution of Al-Hayatul Uliya Lil Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh, the highest body approved by the government for the recognition of Hadith Sanad in Qawmi Madrasa, the president of BEFAC will be Al-Hayatul Uliya and the senior vice president of BEFAC will be Hayatul Uliya senior. As a result, Mahmudul Hasan Al-Hayatul Uliya will be the President and Maulana Noor Hossain Qasemi will be the Senior Vice President of Hayatul Uliya.
Maulana Noor Hossain Qasemi said the three elected officials will be in charge until the next council. The decision has been made based on everyone’s opinion.
The 10th Befaq council meeting is known to have been held in February 2017. At that time, Shah Ahmad Shafi became the president of the five-year assembly. He has been the president of Befaq for the past 10 years. Muhtamim Maulana Ashraf Ali of Jamia Shariah Malibagh Madrasa became the senior vice chair of that committee. Muhtamim Maulana Abdul Quddus of Jamia Imdadia Faridabad Madrasa became the Secretary General. At the death of Maulana Ashraf Ali, Maulana Abdul Quddus was Acting Secretary General and Acting Chief President.
It is known that with the death of Ahmed Shafi on September 17, the post of President of Befaq also became vacant. On the other hand, the Qawmi students demanded the resignation of Maulana Abdul Quddus, Befaq’s general secretary, following the leak of a telephone conversation about the questionnaire. Maulana Abdul Quddus was forced to resign due to physical illness.
The meeting was held on Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. The first session was chaired by Maulana Abdul Quddus, the recently deceased Acting Senior Vice President and Secretary General. In the first session, Maulana Mahmudul Hasan was nominated as interim president, as the post was vacated after the death of Shaikhul Islam Shah Ahmad Shafi, former president of BEFAC. Subsequently, at the second session chaired by him, Maulana Abdul Quddus resigned from the position of Senior Vice President (Acting) and Secretary General, Maulana Nur Hussain Kasemi was nominated for the position of Senior Vice President (Acting) and Maulana Mahfuzul Haque was nominated for the position. Hefazat Secretary General obtained three votes
125 members participated in an emergency meeting of Amela in the Majlis of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh (Befaq). At first there was talk of an election by voice vote, but then voting was arranged. Amela members of the Majlis elected the leadership in three positions by vote.
However, no one was a candidate in this election. Members of the Majlis Amela cast their votes by writing the name of their preferred candidate on a sheet of paper. The electoral steering committee, headed by Mufti Muhammad Waqqas, Vice President of BEFAC, had three co-chairs of BEFAC. They are Maulana Nurul Islam, Maulana Nurul Islam Olipuri and Zafar Ahmad.
Mufti Waqqas told the Bengali Tribune that the election was held on the basis of a written opinion. Members of the Majlis Amela have written their names. The one whose name has appeared the most has been chosen. Maulana Mahmudul Hasan got more votes. Maulana Nur Hossain Kasemi held the second position as President, for which he has been appointed Senior Vice President. Maulana Mahfuzul Haque has become Secretary General. He has been asked to resign as general secretary of his political party.
It is known that Mahmudul Hasan obtained 6 votes for the position of president. His closest rival, Nur Hossain Kasemi, got 50 votes. Mahfuzul Haque obtained 63 votes for the post of general secretary. His closest rival, Maulana Musleh Uddin Raju, got 40 votes.
Seven people are known to have been appointed president. Among them, Shaikhul Hadis Junaid Babungari from Hefazat-e-Islam and Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Hathazari Madrasa got three votes, Maulana Abdur Rahman Hafizji and Maulana Sajidur Rahman also got two votes.
