Developed countries around the world have taken drastic action after a new strain of coronavirus was identified. The Bangladesh Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) was silent about receiving a virus near that strain about two months ago. The question is, were health experts informed before? I spoke with three health experts about whether there was a discussion about what to do in the context of the new strain. The daily star।
Former Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and one of the members of the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 Professor Dr. Islam nazrul He said: ‘The first thing is, if the tension is not close, the whole must be one. BCSIR can explain this. BCSIR provides information one by one from time to time. New strains are being debated around the world, now they say the country already has a strain around it. They are inventing new strains! Won’t you tell us that? Or will they keep silent about the information they will find through research?
‘Another thing is that those who are doing genetic analysis in BCSIR have no knowledge about the disease. That is, if a new genetic strain is found, if it is not informed to the experts, nor to the IEDCR, how can its effectiveness be known? So I can’t evaluate your words. BCSIR has made it all up, but they don’t divulge it. When others express it, they say we already know. Now if they give such misleading information, then my question is what do you have, if not one hundred percent, there are many similarities, what is the relationship of clinical manifestation with it or what is the transmission ratio, please let us know, ” he said .
When asked if he should have informed the experts if he had already received it, the virus expert replied: “It should have been done. But they didn’t. If you get a new theory, you should report it right away. We will compare and see what it is. That’s why it should have happened. Forty countries around the world have stopped flying to the UK after receiving the new strain. This is serious business. At the time it was reported that we had it here before. Which is not exactly the same, There are many similarities. What is our benefit in that? The IEDCR should be informed what it is about. If you have received it, please let the IEDCR know. From there we can all know it. Then we will be able to compare.
Their responsibility was to report as soon as they had a new strain. Because, just as a new strain has emerged in the UK, it can also do so in our country. We will be able to investigate more about it as soon as we get it. If you sit quietly about it, what is the benefit of doing such research? People all over the country are in danger, they all wonder what can be done, they gave that information. This information is not information that should be kept secret. Why did they stay silent even after receiving it? ‘Added Professor Dr. Islam Nazrul.
Former president of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) says it is not unusual to get new strains of crown Professor Dr. Rashid-i-Mahbub “The coronavirus is constantly changing,” he said. Not that there are no changes anywhere. The movement that we must observe is the rate of infection and death. Those who come from abroad must be quarantined. Is there a corona outbreak in rural Bangladesh? Perhaps there is no scientific research, but, from a social point of view, we see that corona infection is mainly urban. With these we have to think about how to prioritize, how to vaccinate.
This is not the time to comment on the new strain. Suffice it to say that mutations are part of the virus. We haven’t fully analyzed it here yet. That has to be done first. We cannot do what the West can do scientifically. However, if there are any changes, then those who are investigating these, the government should contact them, ” said Professor Dr. Rashid-i-Mahbub.
IEDCR advisers note that those who are doing genome sequencing are experiencing some changes all the time. Professor Dr. Mushtaq Hossain He said: ‘Change doesn’t happen suddenly. It all comes down to change. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving office. No evidence of major changes has yet been found. But they are on alert. Because so many people come and go at Christmas, there are more infections and deaths, so it is usually alarming. However, the situation in our country is fluctuating within a range. So what worries the UK or the US may not be that much of a concern as the infection is relatively low.
‘Anyone in the world who is working on genomic sequences must post to a World Health Organization (WHO) website called GISAID. Posting there shows how much the virus has changed. So if BCSIR did that, they must have posted it there, and those who are scientists on the genome sequence may have gotten the news through that website. As a result, those working with genomic sequences in Bangladesh may have heard the news. It didn’t really get a lot of attention because it didn’t change much, “he said.
When asked whether the IEDCR should have been notified, the assessor replied: “It is being decided to regularize the surveillance of genome sequences in the IEDCR. Now we are doing it for the research of scientists. However, some countries, including England, they regularly sequence the genome. If we had done surveillance they (BCSIR) would have been forced to report the matter to the IEDCR. Scientists share them with each other. I don’t know if these concerned IEDCR scientists knew about it. Still, own one it is still out of the reach of the average person.
