BCL activist arrested for raping teenage girl in Sylhet

Sylhet: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9) arrested BCL activist Rakibul Hossain Niju, accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in Sylhet.

He was arrested at a relative’s home in the southern Dhaka area of ​​Golapganj upazila in Sylhet around 8 pm on Saturday (October 3).

Defendant Rakibul Hossain Niju (18) is a resident of Meghna 14 / B in Dariapara and the son of Abdul Qayyum from Jaua Bazar under Sunamganj District Chhatak Police Station.
A press release signed by Ubain Rakhine, an officer from the RAB-9 media wing, confirmed Niju’s arrest around 10:22 pm.

The RAB press release further said that the girl was a sixth-year student at a school in the Khasdabir area of ​​the city. The girl’s mother filed a case (No. 3 (10) 2020) at the police station on Friday night.

After presenting the case, the police rescued the girl and admitted her to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College (OCC) Hospital.
Citing the case, RAB said that on September 29, Rakibul Hossain Niju raped the girl on the roof of the house without her mother’s knowledge. The next day, on September 30, when she returned to her mother and reported the rape incident, her mother filed a lawsuit against Kotwali Thana Niju. The accused is a BCL activist of the leader of the Niju Swechchhasebak League, Pishush Kanti De Group. A few days ago, he was jailed in another case and released on bail.

Meanwhile, on September 25, six BCL leaders and activists gang-raped a woman while holding her husband in a dormitory at Murarichand (MC) College in Sylhet. Upon receiving the news, police rescued the couple from the bedroom at around 10:30 pm. Later, the raped woman was admitted to the OCC center of the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. The case and the defendants have been arrested for raping a schoolgirl in Sylhet this time.
