Batting all day, hoping for a Brathwaite run

The West Indies were 26 of six at the end of the first day of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Antigua, courtesy of the captain’s 99 undefeated.

Brathwaite started the last over of the day with 96 runs. You can make a run of it by playing two balls. I no longer received a strike.

The scorecard will say, both teams are equal on the first day. But the Lankans should be a little disappointed, they must have waited for a little better bowling before winning the draw! However, the wickets were more for the hitters.

The Lankans were able to put the Caribbeans in trouble in three stages in three sessions. At the beginning, the race was 15 by 2. 120 by 4 in a stage of the second session. 222 by 6 in the last session. Every time a couple rescued the Caribbeans.

The Lanka also paid compensation for lost catches. Kyle Meyers scored 49 runs for 12 runs. Aljari Joseph got life for 28 runs and was out for 29 runs. However, they have to pay a heavy price for capturing Brathwaite for 36 races.

Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Koranaratne, who won the draw and chose to go bowling at Sir Viv Richards Stadium on Monday, said he wanted to take advantage of the morning humidity. The great bowling alley at Suranga Lakmal is your desired start.

In an extraordinary spell, Lakmal returned John Campbell and Centurion Encruma Bonner from the previous Trial. Maiden were the experienced pacemaker’s first 6 overs, 2 wickets with zero runs!

Pacemaker Brathwaite, with his left arm, hit four of Fernando’s leg with 18 balls. Unbelievable but true, this starter saw the first 175-ball limit of the series! In the previous Test, he played 18 balls in two innings and did not have four.

Going down to four, Kyle Meyers opted to take pressure off the fast break. Lakmal got three limits in one, both hitting the edge of the bat with the back of the wicket.

The West Indies lost no ground before lunch for 71 races. In the first round after the break, Meyers was sacked by 49 with a bad shot against Fernando’s World Cup.

Jermaine Blackwood crushed Lakmal by a four-six shortly after taking the wicket. Lakmal took revenge by returning 18 runs.

Then Jason Holder and Brathwaite came in with 51 runs. Silver’s Dhananjaya stopped Holder’s 30 innings with 34 balls. Joshua da Silva can play 35 balls and make 1 run. Left arm spinner Lasith Ambuldenia stopped Joseph for 29 after Aljari missed a catch.

West Indies didn’t have 7 wickets for 222 races, then Sri Lanka was ahead. But the combination of Brathwaite and Rakim Cornwall changed the landscape. The two finished the day in an unbroken 75-race partnership. Cornwall is undefeated in 43 of 54 balls after a great fifty in the previous test.

Brathwaite was undefeated on 99 of 239 balls as a wall against the Lankans. He played four thousand test runs on the way to the entrances. He reached the milestone in 129 innings, the slowest for the West Indies (along with Carl Hooper). It will begin the second day with the hope of a ninth century of testing.

Short score:

First entry from the West Indies: 7/26 in 6 overs (Brathwaite 99, Campbell 5, Bonner 0, Meyers 49, Blackwood 18, Holder 30, Joshua 1, Joseph 29, Cornwall 43 *; Lakmal 20-6-61-3, World 22-4-59 – 1, Chamira 21-4-69-1, Ambuldenia 18-3-58-1, Dhananjaya 6-3-18-1).
