He passed the LLB in 1958. He finished the UK Bar at Law in 1972. He began his legal career in 1975 as a lawyer at the Supreme Court and in 1973 as a lawyer in the Appeals Chamber.

He has spent nearly 70 years in the legal profession in his colorful life. He fought a legal battle to get current Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and BNP President Khaleda Zia out of jail during the previous army-backed interim government. Rafiq-ul-Haq has always spoken out in establishing good government in the country and protecting the independence and image of the judiciary. The veteran attorney has assisted the government on many important constitutional and legal issues in the country.

From April 7 to December 16, 1990, Rafiq-ul-Haq served as the state’s highest attorney general. During this time he did not receive any honor. In his professional life, he never joined any political party. However, politicians have always sided with him on various occasions. It has always earned the respect of politicians.
