Banks issued warnings to prevent cyber attacks

Dhaka: Banks have stepped up surveillance of online transactions and ATM transactions amid fears of cyberattacks on the country’s banks.

The Department of Financial Institutions of the Ministry of Finance has sent a letter to banks warning them to avoid cyberattacks.

The letter said that North Korean hacking group Beagle Boys was involved in stealing Bank of Bangladesh reserves in 2016. The Beagle Boys can withdraw money from ATMs in the country’s banks and hack into the Swift network.

According to the letter, banks have increased security in the online banking system. The store is closed from 23:00 to 8:00.

Bangladesh Bank issued a warning to banks in August this year, fearing that the North Korean hacking group could carry out attacks. As a result, most banks have limited online transactions. Withdrawal of money from another bank by a bank customer is stopped.
