Bangladesh to supply 50,000 metric tons of fertilizer to Nepal: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Tuesday that Bangladesh would supply 50,000 metric tons of fertilizer to meet the country’s demand in response to a telephone request from Prime Minister of Nepal, KP Sharma Oli. KP Sharma informed the Prime Minister of this demand by telephone.

The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Ihsanul Karim, said: “The Prime Minister of Nepal called Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina around 5 pm and requested 50,000 metric tons of fertilizer from Bangladesh.”

“In response, the prime minister agreed to give Nepal fertilizer,” the press secretary said.

“In a 20-minute telephone conversation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also assured Nepal that it would provide rail transit,” he said.

The Prime Minister of Nepal thanked the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for this.

Ihsanul Karim said: “The two leaders emphasized on further strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields. They hope that the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between the two countries will soon be signed to strengthen trade and commerce.

The Press Secretary said: “The Prime Minister of Bangladesh congratulated Prime Minister of Nepal Sharma Oli for successfully tackling the coronavirus in his country. Nepal’s prime minister made the call after media reported that the fertilizer crisis could escalate in the country during the current planting season.
